I gotta bring up this issue.. Really, I can't suffer this thing for the whole 3 yrs.. I rather buy a bike sooner than take a train if this problem persist..

The problem of Sardine-packed Trains..

What if population hit 5-6 mil ? do we need more mrt tracks that run round spore ?

The MRT service at present is disgraceful. Trains overcrowing beyond limits is the norm now because for reasons best known to the highly paid good for nothing paper pushers the frequency of trains during peak periods have been reduced.

That is a problem with a monopoly. You got no choice but to take it.
Wonder how long Singaporeans can tolerate such gross mismanagement!
The MRT needs a revamp just like the LTA.

Can you imagine the IRONY of the announcement of "look out for suspicious belonging left behind" when you could hardly turn your head in a packed train!

Some like it packed, some like it spacious.

But it is still not as bad as Tokyo where you can hardly breathe. Luckily the Japanese have good personal hygiene. Here, it is sometimes revolting when someone with a strong odor is in the train. Our climate is just too humid and hot.

Worst if when someone go and fart in the carriage, you will see ppl goin to faint by that"panghong" smell..

Look at this simple Math.....

Less Train = Less Electricity (very $$$) use + Less Train driver......

Gives MORE PROFIT for share holders........

Get The Equation?? If You Can't, Please Use Your Brain To Think, For Goodness Sake ! !

Let's give smrt some time to improve. If it is still packed like sardines, then I may just dial "999" the next time the announcement to be alert sounds in the train.

I may just call the police for the serious lack of safety on this train for the following reasons:

1. The idea of emergency exit door would be pointless when we could hardly move our hands, let alone moving to the nearest exits.

2. The high chance of a stampede (people crushing to death by people) in the event of accident or incident. Some boby can just "cry wolf" and tragic will occur.

3. The serious health threat in contagious diseases due to poor ventilation.

4. The breach of safety standards by the train operators. In discos, people are denied entry when it breaches safety numbers. The packed train is much worst.

I believe that you also need to balance up the peak times versus the off-peak times and you can see that in peak hours, the MRT will be congested.

The way to resolve to cater to volume in peak hrs are up to MRT authority to better provide us a safer, comfortable and enjoyable rides.

They can:
1. add more carriages, lengthened MRT stations

2. increase freq and more trains during peak hrs

3. provide better usherings and control to avoid congestions

4. ensure safety and comfort rides of passengers

Do you overload a plane? The answer is no.

IN India, China and Japan, you see the extreme of pushing people into trains.

We need to improve the services and unless people feedback on such peak hours and do not forget we have a 11 or more million visitors plus 5 million population size.

Hope those suffering from the congestions will alert the MRT ... they have to heed safety and comfort rides.

I can prove it. I wrote to SMRT on the lack of safety and unbearable conditions on a packed train and here's their reply:

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
"Dear Mr xx,
We refer to your feedback through the Land Transport Authority and the Ministry of Community Development, Youth & Sports which we received on 3 May 2006.
We would appreciate it if you could share with us the incident date, incident time, train number, boarding and alighting stations to facilitate our investigation.
We look forward to your reply.
Yours sincerely,
Such reply is what makes me sick. Futhermore its computer-generated.. It makes you feel that you are sarcastically ignored..
But there are reason y the passengers who rather ride trains than their cars..
Reasons:
1st. Safe fuel..
2nd. Where to park their vehicles in town..
3rd. Hate going through traffic jams...
4th. My favourite: ERP "goalposts"(below)
Everyday Rob People... and its 'R' rated...
the daylight robbery is not for the faint of heart it seems!
Watever the case is, I will just tahan my way to SP when peak hours.. Wat can I do??
